Home Town Team Captures EWGA Cup at PGA National

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, October 22, 2013— On October 19th and 20th, PGA National Resort and Spa hosted the Annual EWGA Cup Finals, one of the largest women’s amateur golf competitions to take place in the state of Florida.

Hailing from the home turf, the Palm Beach County Team from Palm Beach, FL defeated a field of two hundred ladies to capture their first victory as the overall champions of the 2013 EWGA Cup Finals.

Through soaring heat and humidity, the Palm Beach County ladies, Pat Ayes, Leslie Fagenson, Cathy Abrams, Nicole Schenkelberg, Diane Dodge, Cheryl Sadlon, Jennifer Uman, and Lynn Robbins, took first with 11 ½ points. That was 3 ½ points better than the 2nd placing Emerald City Stix Chix team.

The 36-hole EWGA Cup Finals consisted of 200 women amateur golfers who advanced beyond local chapter qualifiers to the Finals. The final field represented 28 EWGA chapters across the U.S and Canada.

Competitors played in Four Ball and Singles Match Play. The cup’s format encourages women of all skill levels to compete, underscoring the EWGA’s mantra to enhance the careers and lives of working women through golf.  More than 600 women nationwide entered the Cup Finals qualifiers this year, which began in September.
