Jan 26 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. - LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame member, Nancy Lopez, will be honored with the EWGA Leadership Award during the EWGA 25th Anniversary Celebration and Golf Experience in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia from April 22-24. Founded in 1991 as the Executive Women's Golf Association, EWGA is the largest women-focused national amateur golf association in the United States with Chapters located in more than 100 cities as well as international Chapters in Bermuda, Canada and Italy.
The EWGA Leadership Award honors those who have made longtime and outstanding contributions to women’s golf and whose dedication to the game has inspired others to follow in their footsteps. Previous recipients include Carol Mann, Lorena Ochoa, Judy Rankin, Annika Sorenstam, Kathy Whitworth and Judy Bell.
"We are so pleased to be able to honor Nancy with the EWGA Leadership Award. She has done so much for women's golf and continues to be a driving force in bringing more women into the game," said EWGA CEO Pam Swensen.
Lopez, the winner of 48 LPGA Tour events, including three majors, has been recognized as the greatest female golfer of her generation. During her first full season on the LPGA Tour in 1978, Lopez won nine tournaments, including five consecutive. She is the only woman to win LPGA Rookie of the Year, LPGA Player of the Year and the Vare Trophy for scoring average in the same season (1978). Noticing a void in women’s golf equipment and apparel market, Lopez started Nancy Lopez Golf, to provide choices to the women golfer with a full line of golf clubs, apparel and accessories. In 2014, Lopez began Nancy Lopez Golf Adventures to share her love of golf instilled by her father Domingo, with golfers of all ages and skill levels.
“I want to thank the EWGA for this wonderful award,” said Nancy Lopez. “It is always a great honor to be recognized for my contribution to golf. It is the best game and I am so grateful that I was able to play the game competitively. It has opened so many doors for me and it has been wonderful to be able to help women, by introducing them to the game.”
Lopez will receive the EWGA Leadership Award at the Saturday Night Gala on April 23. The star-studded evening will include a toast from LPGA and Legends Tour professional, Jan Stephenson as well as a keynote address from Dawn Hudson, Chief Marketing Officer of the National Football League.
The EWGA 25th Anniversary Celebration and Golf Experience starts on Friday April 22 at the Golden Horseshoe Driving Range with a Fueling Your Game opening event leading into the Welcome Reception and Marketplace. The conference package includes two rounds of golf (in a choice of formats) on both Saturday and Sunday along with several dinners and other meals, parties and fun activities, admission to historic Colonial Williamsburg and a commemorative gift bag.
