The Match Game - Strategies you may use at the EWGA Cup

Match Play Strategies to Use

Match Play is a fun alternative to stroke play and has some unique rules and strategies.  Should you concede a putt to your opponent or make her hole the putt?  Check out these strategies you could use when playing in the EWGA Cup or another Match Play event [MORE]

These Women Have Game

It's no secret that EWGA members love to play and compete. But for a few members in particular, their passion for golf and ability to play has elevated them to some of the most prestigious golf events in the United States.

Take for example Karen Garcia, a member of EWGA Sacramento. In 2015 Karen claimed the USGA's US Women's Senior Amateur Championship in Nashville, TN by winning the match-play final. Garcia, who is a high school guidance conselor when she's not playing golf, will return to defend her title at the 2016 event. The championship will be held September 17 - 22 in Wellesley, MA.

"The highlight of my championship week was giving myself a chance to fight back and win some matches," stated Karen in an interview with the USGA. "I went down early in my first match and fought back. I never felt like I was the leader of the pack. How many times in life do we have opportunities to push ourselves to excel?"

"The best part about winning the event was realizing that there were so many people along the way who have helped me. I think the best part of being a champion is they have all been a part of that."

This time around, however, Karen won't be alone. She'll be joined in the competition by fellow EWGA members Pat Ayres of the Palm Beach Chapter and Maria Marino of the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter.

"I had never ever considered this tournament as something in my reach," said Ayres. "There were some skilled , experienced  players out there who had a history of successful play in the FSGA  and in USGA tournaments.  The greens were running fast and the rough... well, sometimes just finding the ball was a victory. I am glad that qualification is over and thrilled that I made it to the finals. I have sooooo much more practice to do before September 17th."

We can't wait to cheer and support our EWGA Members later this month!

Long-Lost Friends Reunited Through EWGA

This is Joe-Ann (EWGA Orlando) and Carol (EWGA - Asheville). They were set to meet for the first time at the 2016 Dixie Cup by random pairing.

Or so they thought.

Upon arrival, the two couldn't believe their eyes. Living thousands of miles apart, with different last names from marriage and decades removed from Daniel High School in Clemson, SC, the two suddenly realized... they had, in fact, been long-lost high school friends.

It had been since 1975 when they had last seen or been in contact with each other. Now, 31 years later at the Dixie Cup, the two friends were reunited - paired together playing a game they both grew to love.

Isn't golf great?
