EWGA Foundation Awards Two 2017 Women on Par Scholarships

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.– Bridgette de Juan from Oviedo, FL and Arlene Ramirez from Pharr, TX have been awarded 2017 Women On Par Scholarships from the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) Foundation.

Now in its ninth year, this scholarship program provides financial support to women 30 years of age and older who want to begin or complete their undergraduate education to get ‘on par’ with their peers.

Bridgette and Arlene were awarded the scholarships based on need and their remarkable stories of perseverance and determination to further their education. Both women were thrilled to learn that the EWGA Foundation is helping to make their dreams a reality.

"The EWGA Foundation is committed to supporting women who are returning to school to further their education and personal circumstances," said Diana Gats, President of the EWGA Foundation. "This year, we are honored to support two deserving women, Bridgette and Arlene, in their personal and professional endeavors. It is through the generosity of EWGA members across the country that our community can ‘pay it forward’ through our annual Women on Par Scholarship program.”

In her thirties, de Juan is pursuing a bachelor’s of science dietetics and nutrition while persevering through multiple challenges, including tragic losses in her immediate family and overcoming a physical disability.

“I was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis when I was just 13 years old. I’ve had to fight a lot of adversity for my entire life, including the inability to pursue a college degree through a traditional route,” explained de Juan. “The Women on Par scholarship has allowed me to go back and achieve my dreams as a non-traditional female student. Now in my thirties, this journey has been made more attainable with the encouragement and support from organizations like the EWGA.”

Also in her thirties, Arlene Ramirez, is pursuing a degree in organizational leadership at South Texas College in Pharr, TX. A married mother of four children and working full-time, Ramirez set goal of returning to school and has already completed her associate’s degree in office management. Ramirez herself was a foster child and is the first member of her family to attend college.
