From shopping at Talbots to a Saturday morning golf clinic with skeet shooting at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex in Nashville, the EWGA's Middle Tennessee Chapter aims to have fun. They have rented the Blue Heron pontoon boat for a laugh-filled ride on the Cumberland River and partied at the top of Viridian, a new, luxury high-rise building in downtown Nashville.
This year's Chapter kickoff event, traditionally a Saturday brunch/lunch with speaker followed by optional golf, featured James Fyke, the Commissioner of Conservation for the State of Tennessee and strong advocate for women's golf.
One of the first social events planned each year is with long time Chapter sponsor, Green Hills Chiropractic, who hosts a free reception, offering tips on nutrition and exercise to start the golf season.
"We like to integrate our social events with our sponsors and everyone loves this annual free get-together," says Marlene Key, the Chapter's Social Chair.
"It's the variety of events that we offer that generates strong participation," say Vicki Beaver, Middle Tennessee Chapter President who is the Executive Director for the non-profit Nurses for Newborns. "In this tight economy, we are seeing some changes in how members participate. Many are working longer hours and had to forego week-night leagues, opting instead for our weekend golf events. Of course everyone loves to come out for our social activities."
And Marlene added a new twist for the Chapter's End of Season Dinner on November 3rd. She bid in a radio station charity auction and "won" the guys from 104.5 WakeUp Zone, local media celebrities Mark Howard, Kevin Ingram and Frank Wycheck, a former Titan pro football player.
Of course, instead of having them visit an office, she informed the guys that they would be the special guests at the EWGA Middle Tennessee Chapter Dinner. As an added bonus, anyone who brings three guests gets a free dinner.
"Our social events always help to recruit more members," says Marlene. "We love all of the fun ways we get together, support our sponsors and introduce others to the EWGA."
